
MOKOKCHUNG — Two women candidates namely N Imtimenla Ao (Independent) and Sunepienla Longkumer (NDPP), who are in the fray for Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) from Sungkomen ward (reserved seat), have outlined their objectives and visions for the ward.
Imtimenla Ao declared her candidature on June 21 and her rival Sunepienla Longkumer on June 15.
In her declaration, the Independent candidate remarked that as a woman, she will focus on women's uplift and welfare. She assured to prioritise uplift of destitute women and poor widows as there are many widows and women who lack basic means in Sungkomen ward. She also added that her focus would be on health of women and children.
She also emphasised on beautification, drainage and proper waste management system in the ward.
Imtimenla also assured to make a difference by discharging their roles and responsibilities with sincerity, efficiency and competency, if given the chance to serve either in the municipal or town councils.
The NDPP candidate emphasised the need for development and expressed “if we have vision, we can work hand in hand to bring better development to society.”
She spoke about the capability of the youth to bring societal change through their knowledge and vision and urged the people to consider new perspectives to move forward.
She asserted that the system of governance is fast evolving and that youth are the main force to provide innovative ideas and policies.
She also outlined her main objectives including improving waste management and sanitation, which she aims to achieve them in collaboration with non-governmental and governmental agencies.
She also assured to enhance sports facilities and creating opportunities for young athletes. Besides, her focus was on self-employment by facilitating opportunities for unemployed youth and school dropouts.
