
DIMAPUR: Vekhonielü Crühah, the first Naga woman wrestler to win an international medal, was accorded a hero's welcome by the Chakhesang Wrestling Association, family members and well wishers, at Dimapur Airport on Sunday.
Vekhonielü Crühah who won bronze medal in the under 56 kg at the recently concluded UWW Asian Belt Wrestling Championship in Uzbekistan, represented India team under the aegis of All India Traditional Wrestling and Pankration Federation (AITWPF).
Interacting with Eastern Mirror, Crühah expressed her heartfelt appreciation to Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) for the opportunity, AITWPF president Omar for the support, Chakhesang Wrestling Association (CWA) for the encouragement and her parents, family members and well wishers who supported her morally and financially.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]Crühah, who previously secured impressive victories including gold and silver medals in 2021, along with a silver medal in 2022 at the national level, revealed her deep-rooted passion for wrestling.
She said she was drawn to the sport at a young age and even urging her mother to find a wrestling partner so she could practice and improve her skills.
Inspired by the legendary Mary Kom, Crühah aspires to follow in her footsteps and bring laurels to the state and country and also make a name for herself through unwavering commitment, hard work and dedication.
During the brief welcome programmee, CWA president Vekhozo said that Crühah is the only Naga woman representing the Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) to win a bronze medal in belt wrestling.
Vekhozo also expressed his gratitude to NWA and AITWPF.
Vekhonielu Crühah's father expressed heartfelt gratitude to God for the blessings bestowed upon his daughter, enabling her to achieve such a remarkable feat.
