Woman allegedly killed by husband in Dimapur; third fatal domestic violence case reported in Nagaland this year.
DIMAPUR — A woman in her 30s was allegedly killed by her husband in a suspected case of domestic violence. The incident reportedly occurred in the intervening night of June 12 and 13 at their residence in Walford, Dimapur.
According to police sources, the victim, a mother of five, was reportedly attacked with a machete (Naga dao) following a heated argument between the couple.
The accused, identified as Akheto Sumi, aged around 40, was taken into police custody early Friday morning after local authorities were alerted about the incident between 5 and 6 am. The body of the victim was recovered and sent for post-mortem examination before being handed over to the family.

While the motive behind the argument remains unclear, preliminary reports suggest that the accused may be a substance user. An FIR has been lodged in connection with the incident, and police have initiated an investigation.
This marks the third reported case of domestic violence leading to the death of a woman by her husband in Nagaland in the last five months. The earlier incidents occurred on February 9 at Thilixu village and April 7 between Mhaikam and Pimla villages.
