Diphu, Nov. 12 (EMN): A doctor attached to Dillai state dispensary Assam allegedly refused to treat an expecting woman who was nine months pregnant claimed the life of the pregnant woman on Thur. Nov. 9 at around 4.30 am. The doctor identified as Dr. Netai Chandra Dey refused to treat the patient as his duty hour was over, it was alleged.
It was reported that on Nov. 8 at around 1.30 pm, the victim Sameli Singnarpi was taken to Dillai state dispensary for treatment. Refusing to treat the patient, Dr. Dey referred the patient to the ANM and GNM nurses to handle the case recounted the victim’s family to media persons.
The victim’s husband Sarmonkiri Hanse was consulted with one GNM nurse who after examining the patient was advised to go home as there was still time for delivery.
However the family member’s refused to take the patient home considering her condition and was admitted at the dispensary.
In the evening Singnarpi started feeling pain at the abdomen and without any consultation with the doctor, the GNM nurse and other nurses handled the work for delivery, and in the course the pregnant mother with her unborn child succumbed.
In order to receive firsthand report, a group of media persons went to the Dillai state dispensary. Those who accompanied the pregnant woman told media persons that the family members had several time requested the doctor to treat the patient which was refused and left for his home.
Dr. Dey acknowledged before the media people the situation that took place which led to the death of the pregnant woman and the unborn child.
The victim was referred to Diphu Civil Hospital for treatment by the GNM nurse after her condition worsened and an ambulance was called which did not reach on time, said the GNM nurse to media persons.
If the ambulance had arrived on time, the woman’s life could have been saved, added the nurse.
The ambulance driver speaking to media persons said the distance was the reason for him reaching late.
The victim’s husband alleged that after returning to the dispensary he found his wife’s body on the floor. However the nurse countered that the pregnant woman was made to lie on the floor as she requested them to do so.
In this connection the family members are to lodge an FIR against the dispensary, informed the family members to media persons.
