MLA Y Mhonbemo Humtsoe inspected the Wokha–Hanimi road as clearance work began after the state Cabinet approved its declaration as a National Highway.
WOKHA — MLA Y Mhonbemo Humtsoe, Deputy Commissioner of Wokha K Mhathung Tsanglao, and Executive Engineer (R&B) Mhathung Kikon jointly inspected the Wokha–Hanimi road on Friday following its deteriorating condition caused by landslides and other obstructions.
The team visited several affected stretches where road connectivity has been severely hampered.
Following the inspection, an initiative was launched to clear nearly 40 km of the road with the support of local communities and the concerned departments. The exercise will focus on removing debris and restoring smooth vehicular movement along the route.
The inspection was conducted a day after the state Cabinet, at its meeting held in Doyang on August 6, approved the Wokha–Hanimi road for declaration as a National Highway.
Meanwhile, Humtsoe, accompanied by NPF 38 Assembly Constituency party officials, held separate meetings with residents of Khumtsu and Tsungza villages at their respective community halls on Friday.
During the meetings, villagers highlighted local grievances and development-related concerns while expressing appreciation to the MLA for various works undertaken in their communities.
Addressing the gatherings, Humtsoe said the Cabinet's approval of the Wokha–Hanimi road as a National Highway would open up greater infrastructure development and economic opportunities for the region by improving connectivity and enhancing livelihood prospects.
The MLA also reviewed the progress of several ongoing and completed projects in the district.
He said blacktopping of the Tesophenyu–Shaki road is nearing completion, while the Working Women's Hostel at Tsumang colony is also close to completion. He added that Phase-II development of the GHSS–Molonsu Junction–Hospital road, including the laying of paver blocks, is in progress, and the new Deputy Commissioner's Office complex is expected to be completed soon.
On waste management, Humtsoe informed that a work order has been issued for the construction of a sewage treatment plant, with work already underway. He also said street lights would be installed shortly.
Highlighting the district's overall development, the MLA said more than 42 projects covering road infrastructure, public facilities and other sectors are either under implementation or have already been completed.
Representatives of Khumtsu and Tsungza villages called on residents to adopt a collective approach towards development, urging people to look beyond personal interests and support leaders committed to the welfare and progress of society.
