  • DIMAPUR/WOKHA — Various districts including Wokha and Zunheboto commemorated Grassroots Football Day on Friday.

  • In Wokha, the event was organised by the Wokha District Football Association (WDFA) at ZK turf, Saron colony.

  • As part of its commitment to nurturing and streamlining football at the grassroots level, the association invited young boys aged 4 to 10. Participants were provided a platform to play football and receive training, fostering early engagement with the sport. Additionally, a separate training camp was organised for boys under 16, further strengthening the development pathway for young footballers.

  • Aligning with the All India Football Federation's (AIFF) initiative, the WDFA also conducted a tree-planting drive on the theme ‘Football for the Goals.’ The activity aimed to promote environmental awareness and encourage the football community to take proactive steps toward a greener future, integrating sustainability with football activities.

  • A highlight of the event was an exhibition match between WDFA officials and the Wokha District Referee Board (WDRB).

  • The Zunheboto District Football Association (ZDFA) observed Grassroots Football Day at Kawoto Futsal ground on the theme ‘Football for the goals.’

  • The association also used sub-themes ‘Say No to single use plastic’ and ‘Our football ground, our responsibility’ to mark the day.

  • A short talk on the theme was delivered to the participating school students by Tavinto K Sumi, ZDFA general secretary, which was followed by coaching activities with students. More than 80 students from five schools participated in the event.
