Dimapur, March 30 (EMN): Wokha has received waste disposal vehicles understood to be part of the Swachh Bharat Abhayan (Clean India) initiative. The vehicles were unveiled on March 30 at the DC complex in Wokha town.
Addressing the gathering at the ceremony, the deputy commissioner of Wokha district Wezope Kenye said that the district was enjoying the ‘fruits’ of the Swachh Bharat Abhayan. He told the gathering that the vehicles have been handed over by the department of Urban Development to the town’s council with the objective to keeping the town clean ‘to protect our surrounding and environment.’The deputy commissioner also appealed to the colonies and wards that have been given the responsibility of taking care of the vehicles, to use the facility ‘judiciously only for the clean movement.’
Also, Wezope Kenye hoped that each colony had formed a management committee ‘with proper modalities for the use of the vehicle.’ He appealed to the gathering to take ownership and responsibility to ‘achieve the goal of the movement.’
Very soon the district will have the ‘benefit of a cesspool vehicle’ for clearing septic tanks, he said, which will stop the problem of septic tanks being released during monsoon; the practice causes health hazards and damages the environment.
Rev. Sulumo Ezung, pastor of the Wokha Town Baptist Church, invoked God’s blessing for safe use of the vehicles.
Altogether eight vehicles were handed over to 15 wards; three wards are to share a vehicle.
