Dimapur, Nov. 23 (EMN): District administration in collaboration with Lotha Eloe Hoho (women organisation) organised a pledge taking with candle light programme at Police Point junction in Wokha town on November 23. The programme was held on the theme ‘Save the girl child, educate the girl child” under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme.
A DIPR report stated that youth department of Wokha Town Baptist Church (WTBC) presented street play on the importance of girl child during the programme.
Various events and programmes have been chalked out to be conducted in almost all the ranges and blocks covering the entire district to sensitise and give awareness to the public about the importance of girl child. In this regard, the district administration has involved various departments and stakeholders to conduct the programmes. It also appealed all the concerned to carry out their assigned responsibilities for the success of the programme.
Deputy commissioner, Wokha, Dr. Manazir Jeelani Samoon, addressing the gathering said, it was the first of its kind to host such candle light programme aimed at to educate, empower girl child and to uplift her status in the family and society. The DC urged all to join hands and extend support for the success of the programme.
Speaking on the need to change mindsets, the DC opined that such practice should start from within the family so that equal opportunity could be given to both male and female child. He also stated that the district administration targets to promote school dropouts by initiating various programmes through this scheme.
