Dimapur, Feb. 9 (EMN): National De-worming Day was observed in all the schools and Anganwadi centres under Wokha district on February 8.
The district level programme was held at St. Peter’s School, Longsa village, wherein Dr. Khokholie, MO RBSK, spoke on the importance of de-worming the children. The mission was initiated by the ministry of health and family welfare, Government of India, with the aim to reduce cases of worm infections among children from 1-19 years, a DIPR report stated.
The major goal of the campaign is to de-worm all children to improve the overall health for a better cognitive development among children so that they can get a quality life in future. Infection through parasitic worms (STH-soil transmitted helminthes) is one of the most common infection in children.
Quoting WHO, the report stated that around 220 million children in India are at risk of STH infections. It has emerged as one among world’s largest public health campaign preventing children from intestinal parasitic worms, as worm infection could make children anaemic, mal-nourished, weak, sick, and tired with poor concentration.
On the occasion, ICDS supervisors visited all the Anganwadi centres in the urban areas to supervise the activity.
A mass de-worming programme was organised with the aim to reach all children in schools and AWCs with the de-worming treatment. It stated that children who missed the facility on national de-worming day due to sickness would be de-wormed on the moped- up day – February 14.
