DIMAPUR — The department of Planning and Transformation organised a district-level consultation meeting to formulate sustainable development goals (SDG) for Wokha district on August 17 held in the conference hall of the deputy commissioner’s office in Wokha town.
Nayantara Sashi Kumar, state nodal officer of SDG, highlighted the importance of SDG as a universal call to action adopted by all the United Nations member states in 2015. She stated that SDG, comprising 17 global goals and 169 associated targets, provide a blueprint for a more inclusive and sustainable future.
She added that SDG would address diverse challenges from poverty and inequality to environmental degradation and climate change and advocate a holistic approach to development, a DIPR report stated.
In 2021, Nagaland released the Nagaland SDG Vision 2023 with an aim to achieve the SDG goals by 2030. The core principle of SDG is sustainable economic and social growth while prioritising environmental preservation and ensuring that no one is left behind.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]The primary objective of the meeting was to formulate the SDG district roadmap specifically tailored for Wokha district. The roadmap would guide the allocation of resources, knowledge, and innovation towards achieving measurable, locally relevant targets aligned with Nagaland's SDG Vision 2030.
It would also take into account the unique challenges, priority areas, strengths, and opportunities of the district.
The deputy commissioner of Wokha, Ajit Kumar Ranjan, delivered the keynote address.
During the technical session, SDG officer, Abilo Humtsoe, gave insights into SDG by contextualising them to the district, Nagaland's SDG Vision 2030, SDG district roadmap, monitoring frameworks, Wokha's performance in national MPI 2023, and SDG indicators.
Phyolumo Lotha presented one-on-one department consultations for formulating the SDG District roadmap.
