- DIMAPUR — The
Wokha District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) has approved to celebrate
Banana Festival in the district as an annual event every year.
- The approval to celebrate annual Banana Festival was taken
during its monthly meeting held on Friday, stated a DIPR report.
- The deputy commissioner and vice chairman of Wokha DPDB,
Vineet Kumar, informed that the date for Banana Festival to be held this year
would be finalised in the next DPDB meeting after getting feedback from the
farmers and Horticulture department.
- Replying to a query on the status of banana plantation in
Wokha district by MLA and chairman of Wokha DPDB, Y Mhonbemo Humtsoe, the
horticulture officer informed the house that around 863 hectares of land are
under banana cultivation with both commercial and local variety. He further
said that banana is grown in all the three regions comprising upper, lower and
middle of Wokha district whole year round.
- Mhonbemo Humtsoe dubbed DPDB platform as mini assembly and
emphasised on the importance of participation by every member. He reminded that
everyone should share their thoughts and opinions for the betterment of the
district.
- Meanwhile, the DC of Wokha reminded government departments
in the district to provide the land status of their respective offices for
obtaining land pattas latest by January 31.
- The house also recommended creation of health sub-center in
Nitsuyan village.
- Officer in-charge of Fire and Emergency Service, Francis
Singsit, has highlighted on fire safety preparedness.
- It stated that Land Resources and Fisheries departments were
asked to present their activities in the next DPDB meeting.
- The meeting ended with a note of thanks delivered by the
chairman.
- Following DPDB meeting, another meeting was convened by the
ADC Wokha to chalk out work distribution for the upcoming Republic Day
celebration.
