WOKHA — Several incidents of elephant intrusion in Wokha
district have been reported recently, raising concerns among locals.
In an incident on January 25, a wild elephant was caught on
video savouring banana stems in the kitchen garden of one E Nyimtsemo Kikon,
located in Second Bazaar, Tsungiki village, Wokha district, around 7 pm.
Kikon, speaking to Eastern Mirror, expressed concerns about
the continuous intrusion of elephants into human settlements. On the same day,
an elephant damaged a house and devoured bananas in the locality, which has
been frequented by two elephants for almost a week.
In the video, Kikon is seen urging the elephant to eat the
banana and leave in peace, guiding it to the remaining banana tree in his
garden. Armed with only a torchlight, Kikon assisted the elephant from a
distance of just about 30 feet.
