Wokha DC K. Mhathung Tsanglao urges village council chairmen to uphold integrity, promote unity and ensure development.

WOKHA — Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Wokha, K Mhathung Tsanglao, has urged village council chairmen to uphold integrity, ensure fair and efficient service delivery, and work collectively towards peace and development in their communities.
The DC was speaking as the special guest at the installation programme of the newly elected office bearers of the Wokha District Village Councils Chairmen Association (WDVCCA), held at the Wokha District VDBs and Chairmen Hall on October 16.
Addressing the gathering, Tsanglao welcomed the newly inducted village council chairmen and informed that the appointment and clearance process for village council chairmen had been completed in almost all of the district’s 138 villages, with only a few cases remaining to be resolved soon.
Describing village council chairmen as the face of the people and representatives of their respective communities, he urged them to discharge their responsibilities with wisdom, sincerity and diligence while ensuring justice, fairness and quality service to the public.
He highlighted the crucial role of village chairmen in implementing government schemes and programmes and managing village administration, stating that their leadership and active involvement were essential for the growth and development of villages.
He also stressed the importance of good conduct and integrity among village leaders.
Tsanglao informed that a seminar on the functioning and responsibilities of village councils would be organised in the near future to provide chairmen with a better understanding of their roles and duties through presentations.
Emphasising the need for unity and reconciliation among leaders, the DC called for collective thinking, positive approaches and constructive deliberations.
He encouraged village leaders to resolve conflicts through dialogue, mutual understanding and cooperation.
He further noted that the Lotha community was fortunate to share a common language, which served as a unifying factor and enabled members to communicate and exchange ideas effectively.
Urging the community to build on this shared identity, he called for greater unity and collective efforts towards common goals.
“United we can achieve unimaginable things for the community,” Tsanglao said, cautioning that divisions and differences could weaken the community.
He also urged the WDVCCA to continue playing the role of a mediator in promoting peace and unity and to refrain from involvement in issues that could create discord within the community.
He said the association should remain a pillar of understanding whenever challenges affecting the peace and unity of the Lotha community arose.
The WDVCCA comprises representatives from 138 villages across seven administrative blocks of Wokha district. The newly elected team is headed by T Robin Lotha as president.
Earlier, Rev. Abemo Jungio, pastor of Wokha Town Baptist Church, offered a prayer for the newly inducted team.
The programme concluded with a call for unity, responsible leadership and collective efforts towards peace and development in the district’s villages.
