Department of Forest on May 1 organized a workshop on pre-fire season awareness for coordination among line departments, village, colony councils and NGOs at Forest Colony community hall, Wokha.
According to update from DPRO, the deputy commissioner of Wokha, Dr. Manazir Jeelani Samoon was the guest of honour.
Addressing the workshop, DC highlighted about the structure of disaster management authority. He said ‘if incident are reported on time by village disaster management authority and village disaster core committee response time will be lowered.’
Stressing on the importance of availability of resources and instruments to be used during disaster, he said “if we don’t provide them those basic necessity how are we going to expect them to function efficiently.”
DC also asserted that if the capacity and participation of the community is good then in case of any disaster, the response can be good, timely and more efficient in such eventuality.
Pointing out lack of fire safety norms while constructing buildings, Sasoon urged the people to obtain permission from concerned authority and follow basic norms so that in case of any fire incident it does not spread to nearby buildings.
Commenting on the importance of conserving Mt. Tiyi Forest, he said community participation is very important for success of any project and appealed to the villagers and colonies to come forward and regulate laws and legislations for preserving local natural resources.
SP Wokha, Bharat Markad, who also spoke during the function said “besides the bountiful resources provided by the forest we are trying to degrade the forest.” He urged the citizens to preserve the forest. Giving special emphasis on Mt. Tiyi, he also assured the department of Forest to extend all possible assistance as and when required by the department.
