Extra Assistant Commissioner of Wokha, Athrong, issued an official notification on Friday. The administration has directed the public of Wokha town and villages falling under the alignment of national highway-61 to keep off from the land within the alignment of the highway.
The specification of the highway as per the National Highway Act for Right of Way was 60 feet i.e., 20 meters starting from kilometre 68/0 (Santsuphen) to kilometre 105/0 (Doyang Bridge), the administration stated.
The notification stated: ‘Hence forth, public will have to set aside 30 (thirty) feet i.e., 10 (ten) meters from the middle of the NH-61 road for taking up any kind of building construction. The construction permit will be issued by the committee, on the strength of the recommendation/clearance made by the executive engineer or SDO PWD National Highway division. In case of any violation of the above order, the owners of the building will have no right to claim compensation from the government.’
In addition, a committee has been constituted by the administration to assess and report encroachments in the town’s areas. The committee is composed of the SDO (C) 1, as chairman; assistant director of Urban Development department, Wokha, as member-secretary; SDO of PWD (R&B) and SDO (PWD) R&B (NH) as members.
