Dimapur, May 22 (EMN): Wokha celebrated 25 years of conserving for biological diversity on May 22 at Forest colony community hall in Wokha, with the theme “Celebrating 25 years of Action for Biodiversity.” The programme was organized by the Nagaland State Biodiversity Board.
The special guest of the event, additional deputy commissioner of Wokha, Nokchasashi, said there are about thousands species of living creatures and every species co-exist and loss of one species effect the biodiversity. Stating that every species is important for the wellbeing and he urged for conservation of biodiversity.
Pointing out that human contribute to the loss and degradation of biodiversity, ADC appealed to create awareness for conservation.
Citing that the government schemes to communities are to involve the community, he insisted that village functionaries need to play an important role for success of any programme and urged the village councils and biodiversity management committee to be sincere and dedicated for the betterment of future generation.
Nokchasashi also officially launched a short film on biodiversity management titled “For the Future,” produced by Nagaland State Biodiversity Board with Dreams Unlimited.
Member Secretary Nagaland State Biodiversity Board (NSBB), CCF & BR, Supongnukshi, in his key note address, said the United Nation has proclaimed May 22 as the International Day for Biodiversity to increase understanding and awareness of biodiversity issues.
He informed that under Wokha district there are about 21 biodiversity management committees (BMC). He also expressed happiness to the various BMC formed in various villages for proper management and urged them to keep up the good work.
Forest ranger of Doyang division, Lansothung Lotha gave presentation on rich biodiversity of Nagaland. Short speeches were also delivered by Wokha village and Pangti village BMC.
