The government of Nagaland and its unfailingly-failing enforcement agencies continue to burn in the resentment and rage of those affected by the series of explosions in Wokha in 2015 that left nine dead and scores injured. The residents of the town continue to wait for justice.
Coming amid the attack and explosions on politicians’ residences in Kohima and Dimapur, a deadly explosion rocked Wokha town on February 24 claiming nine lives.
The victims were remembered during a small candle light function organized by youth initiative Team Metamorphosis on Wednesday.
Thungdemo Kyong, president of Team Metamorphosis, explained the reason behind the gathering. He urged the members to be contributors to the progress of the society, and to stand alert and be ‘positively responsive.’
Khyolamo Humtsoe, convener of the Against Corruption and Unabated Taxation for Wokha said “even this morning the president of the LSU and I have met up with the superintendent of police of Wokha and enquired about the development regarding the blast.” This function is not to ‘bring back the painful memories of the past but to remember how much God’s mercy was upon each of those who were present at the function and also that all were kept safe so that we can share the pain and sorrow of others through every possible ways,’ he said. Amos Odyuo, president of the Lotha Students’ Union (LSU) also spoke during the ceremony.
Khonbemo Kikon, the associate pastor of Wokha Town Baptist Church prayed for God’s mercy upon the citizens of the town. Leaders and members of Wokha Town Baptist Church, Lotha Youth Hoho, Lotha Students’ Union, Wokha District Entrepreneurs’ Association, ACAUT of Wokha district, family members of the victims, youth representatives from various colonies, Team Metamorphosis and well wishers attended the event, it was informed.
Candles were donated by Khyolamo Humtsoe and his family for use during the ceremony.
