MOKOKCHUNG — The
5th Winter Night Carnival, an eagerly awaited annual event organised by the
Adventure and Motorsports Association Mokokchung (AMAM), commenced at the Town
Square (Police Point) on December 12.
The festive event, held under the patronage of the
Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC), extends from Main Police Point to Rotary
Junction and operates daily from 6 pm to 9:30 pm. The carnival would culminate
on December 14.
The event was inaugurated by Lanuakum, deputy chairperson of
MMC, as the inaugural patron.
In his opening remarks, Lanuakum thanked AMAM for their
dedication to organise the Winter Night Carnival each year.
"From tonight, we will be witnessing the festive
atmosphere in our town and it is through AMAM’s efforts that this carnival
continues to provide a platform for upcoming entrepreneurs and opportunities
for our citizens," he stated.
He also urged residents to maintain cleanliness and uphold
civic values during the festivities.
"MMC would like to remind everyone to follow the
advisories and orders of the town, maintain cleanliness and be responsible
citizens. As we celebrate this carnival, let us also prepare ourselves
mindfully to receive our Savior Jesus Christ this Christmas. I wish everyone a
cheerful and positive carnival," he added.
A spokesperson of AMAM emphasised the carnival’s mission to
foster community spirit and promote local entrepreneurship.
"This event aims to bring the citizens of Mokokchung
together, activate the festive mood and promote opportunities for local
entrepreneurs during this season," the representative said.
The carnival features approximately 90 stalls showcasing a
diverse range of offerings including merchandise, accessories, food and
mocktails, kids' corner, live music, photo booths, gaming zone, handmade crafts
and indigenous products.
Following the inaugural programme, the inaugural patron
officially opened the stalls, which was followed by a mesmerising performance
by the Pipe Band of Assam Rifles, Mokokchung.
Now in its fifth year, the Winter Night Carnival has become
a symbol of Mokokchung’s vibrant community life and is expected to attract
large crowds over its three-day run.
