WOKHA — Juggernaut
CC and Rising Star registered wins in the two quarterfinal matches of the
ongoing Winter Cricket Challenge (WCC) played at Wokha local ground on Friday.
In the first quarterfinal match between Juggernaut CC and
Thyüshong TDC, Juggernaut won the toss and opted to bat first, setting a target
of 150 for 8 in 20 overs.
Juggernaut CC's innings were led by Gaurav with 46 runs,
supported by Nayan Hazarika with 20 runs. Ntsenlo Semp (4-0-25-2) and Gideon
Khing (4-0-27-2) were the top bowlers for TDC.
Chasing a target of 151, TDC's top order crumbled under a
brilliant bowling attack by Toshimanen (3.3-0-20-3) and Alamo (4-0-19-4).
The top scorer for TDC was tailender Gideon Khing with 28
not out, supported by Henry Kent's quick 17 runs. TDC were bowled out for 99 in
17.3 overs, and Juggernaut CC won by 51 runs.
Toshimanen was adjudged Man of the Match for his all-round
performance.
In the second quarterfinals, Rising Stars played against
Mayangnokcha CC. Rising Stars won the toss and opted to bat, setting a modest
target of 118 all-out in 20 overs.
Dipu Gogoi and Janbemo Kikon kept the scoreboard ticking
despite a tidy bowling attack. Mhonbemo Kithan (4-0-16-3) and Merenkaba Jamir
(4-0-22-2) were the standout bowlers for Mayangnokcha CC.
Chasing the target, Mayangnokcha started strong with Among
Vijay contributing 27 runs before being dismissed by Renbemo in the 5th over.
Mhonbemo was the only other batter to score 15 runs not out.
The match turned into a bowling show, with tight lines and lengths creating
tension. The top bowlers were Renbemo Jungio (4-0-15-3) and Chonben Kithan
(3.1-0-27-3). The nail-biting match was decided in 19.3 overs, with
Mayangnokcha CC bowled all-out for 112 runs.
Rising Star won by just 5 runs, securing their place in the
semifinals. Renbemo Jungio was adjudged Man of the Match.
