WOKHA — The 30th edition of the Winter Cricket Challenge (WCC), Nagaland’s oldest locally organised cricket tournament, commenced at Wokha public ground on Friday.
The tournament, which was previously organised by the Senior Noble Klan (SNK), is now managed by the Nagaland Cricket Association (NCA).
Hyunilo Anilo Khing, Honorary Secretary of NCA who inaugurated the tournament, lauded the organisers and cricket enthusiasts of Wokha district for sustaining it for three decades.

Noting that Wokha has produced several female state-level players, he urged for inclusion of women in future editions.
He also inaugurated a mini indoor all-weather practice pitch at Wokha local ground, which was constructed under the BCCI cricket development project.
Speaking at the event, Yanren Humtsoe, president of Wokha District Sports Association (WDSA), urged the organisers to continue promoting cricket in the district.
MLA of 38 Wokha AC, Y. Mhonbemo Humtsoe lauded the organisers for reviving the age-old friendship between the Ahom (Assam) and Naga communities through cricket.
Several other dignitaries including Deputy Commissioner of Wokha and Superintendent of Police, Wokha DEF, SNK president Penthungo T. Lotha and Golaghat District Sports Association representatives also spoke on the occasion.
Assam-Nagaland Friendship Trophy
The opening fixture of the tournament featured a friendly match between Golaghat Assam and Wokha Nagaland, played as part of the Assam-Nagaland Friendship Trophy.
Batting first, Golaghat Assam scored 145 runs in 15 overs for the loss of six wickets.
Chasing 145 runs by Golaghat Assam in 15 overs for the loss of six wickets, Wokha Nagaland fell short of reaching the target by 12 runs, managing to score only 133 runs for loss of six wickets, despite a fighting 48-run knock from Yanren Ngullie.
Assam retained the 3rd Assam-Nagaland Friendship Trophy.
Shamango Lochan Sharma of Assam was adjudged man of the match for his unbeaten 50 runs.
WCC T20 2025-26: WDCA vs GAPYOCC
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, WDCA put up a formidable total of 224 on the scoreboard for six wickets in 20 overs. Rahul led the charge with a brilliant 95-run knock, while Prachujya remained unbeaten on 61. Liren chipped in with 20 runs for the team.
Chasing the big total, GAPYOCC fell short of 84 runs to reach the target after Nyanthung (32 runs) and Lanvung (35 runs) gave a good start with a 60-run stand.
Rahul of WDCA was adjudged man of the match.
Hill Strikers vs Gracious Event Planning CC
In the second match of the day, Hill Strikers scored 242 runs in 20 overs for loss of for five wickets. Suben (64 runs not out from 22 balls), Nchumthung (63 runs) and Chiben (36 runs) helped the team to put up a mammoth total.
Gracious CC succumbed to pressure, managing to score only 100 in 20 overs for loss of six wickets. It was an easy win for Hill Strikers.
Suben of Hill Strikers was named man of the match for his explosive half century which consisted of with 7 sixes and 4 boundaries.
