
DIMAPUR — As part of extended Hornbill Festival, a seven-day 6th edition of Winter Carnival-cum-Orchid Festival got underway Tepuiki River in Peren district on December 6.
Deputy Chief Minister in-charge of Planning and Transformation and National Highway, TR Zeliang, inaugurated the events as the special guest at Tepuiki River, which was hosted by Keyirangding Hegui, additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of Peren.
Speaking at the inaugural programme, TR Zeliang said that each culture has its own popularity to showcase and connect people of their ancestors and provide a sense of continuity with the past. Referring to the Orchids, he stated that orchid is one of the most alluring and captivating flowers they possess in the area.
Zeliang also encouraged the people of Peren district to collect and acquire different kind of orchids and promote the district, stated a DIPR report.
Kevizeno Rangkau, wife of TR Zeliang, inaugurated the Orchid Festival at Tepuiki River.
Different events such as tug-of-war for men and women, strong man competition, music fest were highlights on day-one, Volley ball tournament, bamboo rafting, arm wrestling, king chilly eating, egg eating and orchids fashion parade competition would take place on day-two.
On the third day, marathon for men and women, traditional tricycle flag-off programme, stilt bamboo walk, top-spinning and Henungna competition would be held. On day-four snail eating and greased bamboo-pole climbing competition would be organised.
The final day events would include catapult shooting, pork fat eating and volleyball final match.
Chingang Konyak, advisor of DUDA, Geology and Mining, was the special guest on day-two. Kethosituo Sekhose, director of Youth Resources and Sports, and Johny Ruangmei, joint chief executive officer of Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), would be the special guest on the subsequent days.
The deputy commissioner of Peren, Vineet Kumar, would be special guest on the concluding programme.
