
Results of the 2023 general election to the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly results were announced on Thursday. In Kohima, three NDPP candidates namely Neiphiu Rio from 11 Northern Angami-2 Assembly Constituency (AC); Kekhrie Yhome from 10 Northern Angami-1 AC; and Salhoutuonuo Kruse from 8 Western Angami AC; including BJP candidate Kropol Vitsu from 15 Southern Angami-II and Kevipodi Sophie from 14 Southern Angami-1 emerged victorious.
Speaking with Eastern Mirror after the announcement, an elated Kevipodi Sophie has attributed his victory to the voters who have cast their votes in his favour during the election saying, “my people comes first.”
He emphasised on his theme “The people first,” which according to him has probably convinced the voters to come all out in his support. When asked the kind of cabinet berth he is expecting, the Independent candidate said that only ‘the time will tell’ once the government is formed.
"I'll do my best for my people, my constituency, and the state as a whole," he affirmed when asked about his plans for the coming days.
Kekhrie Yhome, winning candidate from 15 Northern Angami-1, speaking to this newspaper, stated that like in the past years, they will have a ‘stability government’ with the BJP-NDPP alliance.
"We will once again have an alliance with BJP; so it will be good for the people of Nagaland," he said.
Further, expressing happiness to join the celebration with his people on emerging victorious, he recalled on how they had started ‘humbly’ and recounted on the difficulties they experienced during their campaign days.
"It was hard to convince the people but we made them understand as they want change," he said.
Mentioning those municipal wards and villages that come under his constituency, he further ensured to work together with ‘urban and rural minds together,’ while looking forward to form the government after a thanksgiving programme.
BJP candidate Kropol Vitsu has attributed his victory to the Almighty and expressed hope to form the government along with NDPP as being agreed.
He further looked forward to "work closely in consultation with my people."
