Diphu, Feb. 22 (EMN): With an aim to bring hygienic lifestyle among the rural and urban women, the Diphu made sanitary napkin was formally launched during the recently concluded 44th Karbi Youth Festival (KYF) held at Taralangso, Diphu.
The sanitary napkin called ‘Wings’ a product from Diphu in the first of its kind Karbi Anglong.
Addressing the program, Amrita Teronpi of Innovation Associate of National Innovation Foundation (NIF) informed that the sanitary napkin making machine which was installed in Diphu is the first in north-east India. After which one machine was installed in Manipur and two more in Assam at a same time.
The project was brought in the district in collaboration with Suba Laxmi Foundation (NGO) and National Innovation Foundation (NIF). NIF is an autonomous body of the department of Science and Technology, government of India, Amrita Teronpi said.
The man behind the inspiration was Sheikh Afzal, the grassroots innovator who encouraged the NGO members to set up a machine in the district. Afzal is also said to have visited Diphu and had imparted a two-day training with the NGO member, added Teronpi.
With the market price of pads seen on the rise, the women folks cannot afford the price, said Teronpi. He said ‘Wings’ sanitary napkin will be a cheaper one so that every women can afford it.
It is also witnessed many places in India are seen revolution over high price of Napkin. So in order, to give a healthy lifestyle to women section in the society, a group of people come together and and started working together and making the fulfilment dream of a women. Bleeding menstruation is not the shame, everybody should be proud, we bleed for you, added Amrita.
