After the successful celebration of the Naga Day on January 10, 2018, in commemoration of the Memorandum submitted to the Simon Commission on January 10, 1929, the Naga social organizations who had enthusiastically and actively participated Naga Day celebration are now actively and strongly demanding “solution before election” which is the demand of the NSCN-IM from the Government of India for shared sovereignty and Pan-Naga Hoho within the Indian Union. Then, what was the motive behind the celebration of Naga Day? Had they celebrated it in the interest of Pan-Naga Hoho or to start a new history? It might be a reason for them not to mention the important history of Naga nation in the Naga Day declaration.
If they celebrated Naga Day in order to uphold and keep the value of the Memorandum, which read: “If the British Government however, want to throw us away, we pray that we should not be thrust to the mercy of the people who could never have conquered us themselves and to whom we were never subjected; but to leave us alone to determine ourselves as in ancient times.” (unquote) They should not support or demand a solution within the India Union. They should strongly protest against a solution within the Indian Union. But if they support a solution within the Indian Union, the celebration of Naga Day becomes meaningless. The memorandum clearly said, India did not conquer Nagaland in the history and the Nagas never subjected to India, and the Nagas cannot trust India. The support for a solution within the Indian Union is therefore, a contrary to the Memorandum of the Simon Commission and a betrayal.
