Wetilo Wetsa from Kami village emerged as the champion of the Kuzha Tephe Sports Association Wrestling Meet 2026.

DIMAPUR — The Kuzha Tephe Sports Association (KTSA) conducted its Wrestling Meet 2026 on January 9 at Pfutsero Sports Complex in Phek.
In the senior category, Wetilo Wetsa (Kami village) won the champion title and a cash prize of INR 1 lakh, sponsored by KTSA and the championship belt donated by the family of the late Zumolhi Mero, stated an update.
Reka Mero (Lekromi village) bagged the first runner-up position and received INR 80,000, sponsored by Dr. Wepetso Marhu. Wewute Lomi (Leshemi village) stood second runner-up and received INR 60,000 sponsored by Wepete Mero, PGT, GHSS Pfutsero.
The fourth position holder, Preku Krome (Lasumi village), was awarded INR 40,000, sponsored by Weto Kapfo.
In the Under-15 category, Riche Sara (Leshemi village) emerged as the champion and received INR 25,000, sponsored by David Khutso, deputy director, Department of Economics and Statistics.
Echewe Kapfo (Pfutseromi village) bagged the second position and pocketed INR 20,000, sponsored by Ketshengupe Losou. The third-place winner, Lhiwepe Mero (Pfutseromi village), got INR 15,000, sponsored by Mheche Wetsah, survey officer.
Kewa Therie (Lasumi village) stood in the fourth position and was awarded INR 10,000, sponsored by Mese Kapfo, entrepreneur.
The 30th Wrestling Meet of KTSA was managed by the Zuketsa Students’ Union. The new team of office bearers for the tenure of 2026-2028 will be led by Wepe Kronu as president and Kroku Kapfo as general secretary.
Earlier, Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhütso, MLA, attended the meet as the special guest. In his speech, Dr. Rhütso stated that the state government has been giving its best to promote sports, including wrestling, in Nagaland.
He said wrestling does not only involve physical strength but is a sport that builds friendship and connects people. Time has come that one must conquer others through love and compassion, he said.
Dr. Kewelelo Mero, project director, Nagaland Livestock Development Board, attended the occasion as the guest of honour. He expressed that wrestling is a tradition and identity and is one of the most respected sports amongst the community.
In earlier times, wrestling was not a mere sport but also a means of settling disputes, he said.
