The Western Sumi Youth Front condemned the unprovoked assault on Dimapur Restaurant Union President Tito Yepthomi.
DIMAPUR — The Western Sumi Youth Front (WSYF) issued a statement condemning the alleged assault involving Katho P Awomi, a student leader, along with three alleged accomplices, and Tito Yepthomi, President of the Dimapur Restaurant Union.
According to the WSYF, the incident involved the alleged breach of a private establishment, an alleged unprovoked assault on its owner, and the subsequent escalation of violence through vandalism.
The organisation stated that leadership is defined by restraint, dialogue and integrity and described the alleged incident as inconsistent with the responsibilities expected of a student leader.
It stated that a student leader is entrusted with guiding the youth, upholding moral integrity, advocating peace and serving as a role model for the community. The organisation added that such conduct amounted to a betrayal of the values of student leadership.

The WSYF also raised concerns over the status and implementation of the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act, 1989. It stated that the gap between the legislation and its practical enforcement frequently creates volatile environments that put local business owners at risk.
The organisation urged the concerned authorities to thoroughly examine the matter and take suitable and stringent action against those found responsible. It stated that lawlessness should not be tolerated under selective enforcement.
The WSYF further expressed concern over what it described as a hostile environment surrounding local businesses. It warned against rogue elements allegedly operating under the guise of various associations and unions to make unauthorised claims, seek unlawful donations or impose illegal demands on business establishments in the western region.
It stated that those involved in assault, harassment and violence should be penalised under the strictest provisions of the law. The organisation added that attempts to intimidate local entrepreneurs under the banner of established unions would not be tolerated.
