A major fire broke out in Western Dzükou, prompting the Kohima Deputy Commissioner to form a rapid-response team

KOHIMA — In an unfortunate incident, a large swathe of western Dzükou caught fire on Friday, with smoke visible from behind and along the periphery of Mt. Puliebadze as seen from Kohima.
Videos of the blaze went viral in the afternoon, showing flames spreading across the valley and charring its natural landscape.
Thick smoke continued to rise, casting a dark haze over the state capital.

Roughly, western Dzükou falls within the forest area of Khonoma village, Asia’s first Green Village, located on the western side of Kohima.
As of the time of filing this report, the cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained.
Meanwhile, the deputy commissioner of Kohima has constituted a team for immediate reconnaissance and rescue operations to prevent further spread of the fire.

The team, headed by Imliakum, SDO (Civil), Sechü-Zubza, includes the SDPO (North); district commandant, Home Guards; range forest officer, Forest department; nodal officer, DDMA Kohima; OC, Fire & Emergency Services; and representatives from the Western Angami Youth Organisation (WAYO).
The order directed the team to proceed immediately to the site, assess the situation, and mobilise all available resources to contain the fire. The team has been instructed to submit regular updates to the DC.
