DIMAPUR — The Western Chakhesang Hoho (WCH)—the apex tribal body representing the Chakhesang community across Dimapur, Chümoukedima, Niuland, and Peren—has formally petitioned the Dimapur police commissioner and deputy commissioner following a reported molestation and assault of a Chakhesang woman in a moving auto-rickshaw on Niuland road near Showuba on June 15.

In their letter of grievance, the WCH identified the two alleged perpetrators as one resident of Khekiho village and auto driver Nur Islam of Bapura Ati (Nagaon district, Assam). It asserted that both the perpetrators “must be subjected to immediate and stringent legal action as per the relevant provisions of the law.”

The WCH reminded authorities of a previous representation submitted on February 25, 2025, concerning the molestation of a Chakhesang female nursing student at Dimapur District Hospital.

“Had prompt stringent exemplary action been taken at that time, it could have served as a strong deterrent to this kind of recurrence of violence against women without any regard for the law,” it said.

In light of these circumstances, the WCH demanded not only for stringent and expeditious legal action, but also for a visible increase in security measures, including intensified police patrolling. It urged for prompt and resolute intervention to ensure that justice is served and the safety of women is upheld as an inviolable priority.
