- DIMAPUR — The
Western Angami Youth Organisation (WAYO) has urged the deputy commissioner of
Kohima to “take proactive steps for maintaining public peace”, citing a
“volatile undercurrent of the simmering peace” following the release on bail of
one of the accused persons involved in the fatal attack on the political
assistant to DC Kohima on May 18, 2024.
- In a letter to the DC, the youth organisation highlighted
some recent developments pertaining to the death of Kezhalelie Lawrence
Miasalhou, PA to DC Kohima, after he was physically attacked by Neizosetuo Tire
and Khrietsonyu Whuorie.
- “It is learnt that one of the two culprits is out on bail,
and the other culprit too has applied for bail. These recent developments are
of grave concern. The WAYO therefore brings to your attention for utmost
serious consideration that while the case is in the court and it is up to the
wisdom of the court to grant or not to grant bail to the "accused",
CCTV footage of the incident has gone viral, wherein it is clearly shown how
the culprits attacked the political assistant to the deputy commissioner,
Kohima, in broad daylight in the heart of Kohima, leading to the death of the
victim.
- “It is not even one year, and emotions are still high.
Further, as per court documents, it is found that ‘till date only two of the 39
listed prosecution witnesses have been examined’ and also that the role of the
person released on bail ‘was only of instigating the confrontation.’ This has
raised a lot of questions in people's minds,” the letter read.
- Therefore, the WAYO suggested that freeing the culprits at
this juncture “may lead to disturbances and even serious law and order
situations.”
- Against this context, it urged the DC to take said
“proactive steps.”
