Dimapur, Sep. 1 (EMN): In order to address the overloaded trucks plying on Dimapur-Kohima road which leads to frequent standing and stoppage of traffic, the deputy commissioner (DC) of Dimapur, Rajesh Soundararajan, on Monday informed that the weighbridge will be made operational at ISTT 7th mile Chumoukedima in Dimapur w.e.f September 10.
He therefore directed all up-bound (Kohima route) goods laden vehicles to undergo weigh test and obtain weight compliance slip. On production of the same they will be allowed to go upto Kohima.
Certain categories of vehicle such as tankers, truck ferrying FCI goods, trucks used for central and state project work, trucks engaged in national highway project, railway works and trucks engaged for local duties within Dimapur will be exempted from obtaining the weight compliance slip, it informed.
The DC further notified that overloading will not be allowed and the vehicle load carrying capacity will be as per the registered payload/GWV mentioned in the vehicle registration certificate and it shall be strictly followed and shall be the responsibility of the concerned vehicle owners to remove the access load and transport the same out of the ISTT and no goods shall be left in the ISTT premises.
Soundararajan further cautioned that overloading of any goods vehicle will be liable to attract punitive action under the relevance section of the Motor Vehicle Act.
