Dimpaur, June 19: Wokha District Entrepreneurs’ Association (WDEA) observed its 2nd foundation day on June 15 at Hammock Resort with Dr. Chumben Murry, former minister, as the theme speaker on the theme “Building economy through entrepreneurship.”
The theme speaker, in his power point presentation, said being an entrepreneur meant more than a businessman and elaborated economy in terms of wealth. He challenged the gatherings to be an enterprising entrepreneur, to be a man of vision where change is essential, should be an expansion oriented, farsighted, innovative taking the example of SWAT AND SMART.
In spite of all the negative trends like roads, business monopoly, high cost of transportation, he encouraged why we cannot be richer than the others. He also suggested that in the near future the association should focus more on entrepreneurial opportunities in the town, how to develop a successful enterprise and finance & budgeting through workshops and seminars. Other short speeches were delivered by Aben Ngullie, president of Chamber of Commerce & Industries; Rainbow Ngulie, WDEA legal advisor; and Masheto Nandu, Branch Manager of NSCB.
M James Tungoe, general secretary WDEA, gave a brief report on the business opportunities and potentials available in Wokha. While pointing out that the district has many talented young entrepreneurs, he lamented that majority of the markets in the districts have been dominated by outsiders.
He said the association, in its second year, witnessed slight increase in the overall business turnover in the district with the entry of local youth in humble profession such as cobblers, hair saloon, vegetable vendors, timber/saw mills, hotel catering and resort.
Ms. Mhonyani Jungi, assistant general secretary WDEA, chaired the function, while Ponathung Kikon. president WDEA, delivered the welcome address. O Thungben Kikon, Pastor WVBC, said the invocation, Avono Rio, while Nagaland Rainbow Choir presented special song and the vote of thanks was delivered by S Aben Ngulie, Vice president Wdea.
