Dimapur, Jan. 7: The Western Chakhesang Youth Organisation’s (WCYO) ‘Biennial Sports Meet’ 2019 kick-started on Mon. Jan. 7 at Bade village ground with class-1 contractor, Isaac Kronu, as the special guest.
The event on the theme “Aspiration, dare to win,” will be witnessing four varieties of sports namely—relay race, football, volleyball, and badminton. It is a six-day event which will conclude on Sat. Jan. 12.
It was informed that the WCYO was formed in 1970. It conducted its first ‘Biennial Sports Meet’ way back in 1973. The organisation consists of 17 units out of which 16 units are currently participating in the sports meet.
During his speech, Kronu appreciated the progress made by Western Chakhesang community for being self reliant for economic growth. Placing an emphasis on the fact that Chakhesang community is known for honesty and simplicity, he advised the gathering to maintain and promote the pride of their dignity during such sports meet.
The president of Chakhesang Youth Front (CYF), Lhüvesayi Lohe, also spoke during the occasion. He stressed on the ‘CYF resolutions’ which states about the prohibition of jungle burning, hunting and sale of wildlife, sale of pork from outside sources; to promote economic interest; and the resolution to uphold and enforce the decision of the Chakhesang Public Organization against same sex marriage. He asserted that the resolutions are applicable to all Chakhesang community, irrespective of geographical location.
Later in the event, assistant games and sports secretary, Zekote Wezah, led the oath taking ceremony. The special guest hoisted the WCYO flag and performed a kick-off to mark the opening of the sports meet.
