Watershed Yatra Campaign culminates at Asükiqa village
The Watershed Yatra Campaign, a 20-day yatra initiated by the Union Ministry of Land Resources and organised by the Department of Land Resources, Nagaland, culminated at Asukiqa village in Zunheboto district

- DIMAPUR — The
Watershed Yatra Campaign, a 20-day yatra initiated by the Union Ministry of
Land Resources and organised by the Department of Land Resources, Nagaland,
culminated at Asukiqa village in Zunheboto district.
- The culmination programme of the yatra, which covered four
districts of Nagaland, was held on Monday at Asükiqa village, incorporating
four other villages in the area, namely Ghokimi, Kitami, Tsaphimi and Puneboqa,
a DIPR report stated.
- Delivering the keynote address, chairperson of the
programme, assistant inspector of Land Resources, Roselyn Chishi, highlighted
that the ‘Watershed Yatra’ is a mass outreach campaign to create awareness
about watershed development activities carried out under the Watershed
Development Component of Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (WDC-PMKSY
2.0), across 27 states and two Union Territories.
- The campaign comprised major activities including Bhoomi
Poojan, Lokarpan of new projects in every district, Watershed Mahotsav,
Shramdan, Watershed Ki Panchayat, awards and recognitions to the Watershed
Warriors, Bhumi-Jal Pitch, etc., she said.
- The nationwide campaign will subsequently help in achieving
the ‘Community Driven Approach (Jan Bhagidari),’ which needs to be adopted for
the implementation of watershed projects, as per extant guidelines, and also
galvanise the implementation machinery at the field level, Roselyn added.
- The programme also witnessed the handing over of assets
(lokarpan), where Alowoni SHG of Kitami village was felicitated with a solar
dryer under Livelihood, Micro-Enterprises and Business Development, which was
administered by the additional director of Land Resources, Hekato N.
