Our Correspondent Kohima, Dec. 5 (EMN): To discourage visitors from using bottled-drinking water and instead opt for environment-friendly water carriers, the department of Tourism has installed three water vending machines in Kisama.
In line with the state government’s declaration of Kisama as a plastic-free zone, the department has installed three water vending machines for public to access drinking water, according to the assistant director of Tourism department, Toka E Tuccumi.
The machines have been sourced from Coimbatore at the cost of around INR 2 lakh. The department has charged one regular staff to ensure that the cans are always full.
The facility comes with the option of dispensing hot, cold, and normal water. However, in order to access the drinking water from these machines, one has to carry water bottles. The facilities have been placed at key points—outside souvenir shop, main arena entrance (left) and on the way to children’s park.
Meanwhile, the Southern Angami Youth Organisation in collaboration with the department is strictly checking on the selling of tobacco and alcohol in and around Kisama. It is also ensuring implementation of plastic-free zone declaration by confiscating any single-use plastic items in the area.
