Dimapur, April 27 (EMN): In a significant step towards implementation of Non-Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR) project on augmentation of water supply, Wokha town is set to soon receive sufficient potable water.
Minister of PHED Chotisuh Sazo today made a field visit to the project site accompanied by PHED chief engineer Er. Kevisekho Kruse, Deputy Commissioner Wokha and a host of officers of the department and public leaders.
On completion, the project is expected to provide an additional supply of 3.75 million litres per day which involves pumping of water from Engorotchu stream through one stage of pumping for Wokha town.During the visit, it was found that various items of civil constructions, electrical and pumping unit installations including the work items were near completion and is expected be inaugurate very soon.
It is hopeful that sufficient safe drinking water to the public and the commissioning of the project would solve the water scarcity problem in the town. Further, it was felt that online payment system in water supply will also improve the revenue collection of the department.
Later, Sazo also visited the present water supply of Wokha town through pumping from Etchuchuka which supply 1.75 million litres per day.
It may be recalled that PHED was bifurcated from the erstwhile PWD and became a fully fledged department in 1974. As per the rules of executive business, PHED is responsible for providing safe and potable drinking water supply, safe disposal of solid and liquid waste and environmental hygiene.
