Dimapur, July 14 (EMN): Officials of the mission-mode water conservation campaign Jal Shakti Abhiyan visited Longleng district from July 9 to the 13th to discuss issues related to water conservation and implementation of water projects in the district.
The government’s publicity agency, the department of Information and Public Relations (IPR), issued updates on Sunday informing about the event.
According to the IPR, Block Nodal Officer for Jal Shakti Abhiyan, Ashwini Kumar, and Dr. Surjit Singh met with officials of ‘line departments.’ Besides, the visiting officers visited villages in the district, the updates stated.
A preliminary meeting was conducted with the deputy commissioner of Longleng district on July 10 in the deputy commissioner’s conference hall, the updates stated.
Addressing the meeting, Deputy Commissioner John Tsulise Sangtam highlighted the purpose of the meeting to the officials of the line departments. He appealed to the departments to cooperate with the central team to make their visit ‘meaningful and beneficial for the people of Longleng district,’ the IPR explained.
The officials then visited Yangching, Yongphang and Sakshi village after the meeting on the 10th of July while at Tamlu block the team visited Yongshei, Tangha, Tamlu and Netnyu village on the 11th. On the 12th they visited the project areas of the Forest department and the Krishi Vigyan Kendra at Hukphang and Pongching village. Later, a briefing was conducted at the DC’s.
During the briefing, the possibility of ‘convergence of line departments to implement projects for water conservation was thoroughly deliberated and holistic plan was to be completed before the 31st August 2019.’
“The core issue of observation before the team was the groundwater level issue and conservation of water related issues in the district. Therefore, they observed to implement various schemes under line department for construction of ponds, rain water harvesting, bore wells, traditional wells etc,” the updates stated.
During the first meeting, officials of the “line departments” along with those from the district administration had submitted a ‘baseline survey,’ the updates stated.
Another officer from the central ministry will be visiting the district during July 14-15 “for coordination meeting,” the IPR explained.
