Dimapur, July 5: Minister of Public Health Engineering department, and the recently inducted chairman of Dimapur District Planning annd Development Board (DPDB), Jacob Zhimomi said that water conservation is the need of the hour, and a very important issue in the state.
Speaking to Eastern Mirror, Zhimomi said that water conservation is now a national movement in the country. “The conservation is not only for consumption but for many other usages also,” said Zhimomi adding that all departments in Nagaland need to perform to its fullest potential and help the state to grow.
“All departments, especially the Land Resources, Water Resources, PHED, Soil and Water—all have to work together whether they like or not,” asserted the minister.
Zhimomi further emphasised that this movement is part of an initiative of Jal Shakti ministry that aims at providing clean drinking water across the country.
An important aspect that he highlighted was the reuse of ‘grey water’, which he said is a segregate form of liquid and solid waste. “We need to learn how to reuse grey water for irrigation purposes and other water-related works,” said Zhimomi.
The PHED also appealed all the departments to have a Swachh Bharat Mission in-charge in all districts. The minister said that any government employee—from the rank of an LDA—could take the role.
Zhimomi also said the state government has constituted the Watsan (water and sanitation) committee to see that proper water and sanitation works and hygiene is implemented especially under the Swachh Bharat Mission.
DPDB meeting held
The monthly meeting of the DPDB was held at the DC’s conference hall on July 5. The meeting was chaired by Zhimomi, who advocated for cleaner and healthier work places in the district.
During the meeting, Zhimomi suggested that the Land Resources department carry out media campaign on different schemes and projects.
As suggested by one of the board members in regards to acknowledging dedicated government employees in the district on special occasions, the house constituted a committee headed by the DC.
During the meeting, the department of Land Resources highlighted the achievements and activities undertaken in the district.
The Health department also gave a presentation on dengue awareness programmes it conducted.
