KOHIMA, OCTOBER 14: Awareness on Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) was organised by Water and Sanitation Support Organisation (WSSO), PHED, in collaboration with the Lower Agri Ward Council, Kohima, on October 14 at Lower Agri Colony.
Jakpou Khiamniungan, Executive Engineer PHE (Rural), who initiated the awareness campaign, said SBM was officially launched on October 2, 2014, by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, with a vision to make India clean by 2019.

He also said mass contribution of the community was essential to supplement the general rule of SBM.
Stressing on the important role that women play in the household, he encouraged the womenfolk present to actively participate in the sanitation drive as their help was much needed.Thepfalie Theünuo, Sanitation and Hygiene Consultant, District Water and Sanitation Mission (DWSM), PHED, who also spoke at the awareness campaign, said everyone understands what sanitation was all about but hardly anyone practices it.
Speaking on SBM, he said the appeal to devote 100 hours every year towards the cause of cleanliness should be practiced by individuals, which in turn, will encourage many others. Furthermore, he added that civic sense should not be confined to one’s own home alone but also towards the community as well. Stating that the growing demand of people in today’s time generates more wastage, he emphasised on the practice of the three Rs of the environment- Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
Lower Agri Ward Council members, women and colony members of Lower Agri and officials from different departments were present at the awareness campaign.
