WASA 53rd wrestling meet begins today

Our Correspondent KOHIMA, JANUARY 21 The 53rd wrestling meet of the Western Angami Sports Association (WASA) will commence on January 22 (Friday) at Kohima Local Ground. A total of 60 wrestlers from the villagers under Western Angami region will compete in Naga Wrestling. Prominent wrestlers including former Nagaland wrestling champ Megosier Khate, Hornbilll Naga wrestling champion Zasevikho Meyatsu, giant killer Rokosielie Khawakhrie, Mhasilhousie Nagi, Seketoukho Nipu, Rovilhoulie Pier, Keleselhou Chüsi, Vizobeilie Punyü, Neivolie Senotsu and Neitsilie Zhünyü, will be taking part in the championship. The two-day wrestling event will also witness junior category wrestling for under-14 wrestlers and free style wrestling for both seniors (Men & women) and cadets (Boys & girls).The inaugural ceremony will commence at 9.30 am, and will be graced by Kiyanilie Peseyie, Minister for Social Welfare & Parliamentary Affairs, while Rovilato Mor, Deputy Commissioner, Kohima, will be the guest of honour for the closing function. The prize sponsors for Naga wrestling are Er Vikedosie Kehie, Chief Engineer (NH), PWD, Nagaland (1st Position), Mego Nagi, Class-1 Contractor (2nd Position) and Peteroko Meyase, Deputy Director of Sports, Nagaland University, Meriema Campus, Kohima (3rd Position). The prize sponsors for free style wrestling are Melie Nakhro, Class-1 Contractor and Khrielievi Chüsi, advisor, Angami Youth Organisation, while the tracksuits for the selected WASA wrestlers for the forthcoming Angami Sports Association wrestling meet will be sponsored by Mhiesirielie Sirie, senior wrestler, WASA and Dr. Rokoliebi Khate, senior specialist, District Hospital, Phek. The jury board members for the tournament are Neivikuolie Khatsü, Jakedovo Chase, Keviselhou Peseyie and Satuo Sechü, while the NWA deputed referees for the wrestling meet are Neingulie Nagi, Vekhriyi Chüzho and Kikhwesül Thokhwe. The field judges are Megosezo Khate, Khovi Punyü, Zapusazo Sirie, Mhiesilhoukho Kitshü, Visakuolie Rhatsu, Zhabu Mor, Rokokhotso Rino and Vikosalie Peseyie, while the announcers are Luovilie Vakha and Neidilhoutuo Sechü. The recorders are Neitsülie Khawakhrie, Visede Meyase, Rokotolie Nakhro and Bikho Zhünyü, while the time keepers are Menuolie Sirie, Neikeselie Punyü, Neingusalie Gwerie and Keneicakho Kuotsu. The runners are Kevicalie Senotsu, Pezalhousie Medoze, Rokolhoulie Seyietsu and Neisietso Rino, while Dr. Kethoselie Peseyie, medical officer, Primary Health Centre, Sechü Zubza, will take charge for the first aid.
