MOKOKCHUNG — Recognising the heroic act of valour displayed by Captain (Honourary), Imliakum Ao (MVC) of 2 Naga Regiment during the 1999 Kargil conflict, the Chuchuyimpang citizens erected a monolith in honour in his native village on Friday.
The monolith was inaugurated by S Supongmeren Jamir, Lok Sabha MP, in the presence of Brigadier Vikram Singh, DIG of HQ 7 Sector, Assam Rifles, and ranks and files from the security forces and district administration.
Speaking on the occasion, Jamir has termed as a great honour to have a war hero among them and expressed pride that Nagas have participated and became heroes to safeguard the great nation.
“Bravery and courage have always been the spirit of the jawans and they always shoulder the responsibility to ensure that there is peace and harmony in the country,” Jamir said.
Reminding that Nagas are peace lovers, he urged the security forces to maintain the brotherhood and be the peace keepers of this great nation.
With the inauguration of the warrior monolith, he anticipated more youngsters to forward to defend great nation.
Brigadier Vikram Singh, who also spoke on the occasion, lauded the citizens for constructing a memorial to honour Imliakum Ao, who had exhibited supreme valour to defend the great nation.
He announced that the Kargil Vijay Diwas (Kargil victory day) would be celebrated every year at the warrior monolith site.
