Waromung to host AKM centenary celebration

[caption id="attachment_246944" align="aligncenter" width="900"] Cultural Aong Reju Cultural Organisation from Kohima presenting a cultural dance at Waromung on the occasion of Moatsu festival on May 1.[/caption] Dimapur, May 2 (EMN): As a curtain raiser to the 100th anniversary of the Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM) or Ao Students’ Conference scheduled to be held in Waromung village, the Waromung Shisashir Telongjem organised a grand Moatsumong (Moatsu festival) on May 1, which was attended by the working president of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee, Bobby Panicker, and the Joint Director of Rural Development, CI Meren, as special guests. AKM, which was established in the year 1929, is the apex students’ organisation of the Ao community. The centenary celebration of the AKM will be held in Waromung village as decided during its conference held in Ungma in 2012. The special guest, Bobby Panicker, who is an in-law of Waromung having married to the daughter of the first president of AKM Nokdenlemba, shared his happiness to be a part of the Moatsu festival. While acknowledging AKM for choosing Waromung as the host village for the centenary celebration, Paniker recollected the life of the first AKM president, Nokdenlemba. He said Nokdenlemba was a person who served the Lord in different capacities. Panicker disclosed that he will build a “students’ centre cum guest house” for which he appreciated the village council for allotting the land. Special invitee, CI Meren also shared his happiness to be a part of the Moatsu festival, which was organised as a grand opening to the 2029 AKM centenary celebration. Leaders from neighbouring villages such as Dibuia, Yimjenkimong and Salulumang joined in the grand Moatsu festival. Cultural troupes from Yimjenkimong and Dibuia presented traditional songs. Alongsungkum cultural club, Waromung and Aong Reju cultural organisation, Kohima, also presented traditional dances much to the awe of the spectators. The pastor of Waromung Baptist Church, Meren Mollier, invoked God’s blessings, while the convenor of the centenary planning cum fund raising committee, L Imlinungba Longkumer, shared about the vision and the objectives about the 2029 AKM centenary celebration.
