
Dimapur: Wangyat Wangsu and Henmei Phom were declared winners of the first carom tournament in both male and female categories organised by Guwahati Eastern Nagaland Students’ Union (GENSU) held on June 3 at Tirtha Nath Sarma Hall in Chandmari, Guwahati.
An update from GENSU stated that Temsumeren Pongen won the second prize in the male category, while Sentinaro Jamir won the second prize in the female category.
The tournament was organised as part of fund raising campaign while emphasising on the social integration of all the Nagas in Guwahati.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]It stated that a total of 62 participants including 44 male and 18 female from different Naga tribes and neighbouring states took part in the tournament. It added that no entry fee was charged from the female participants to encourage women folks take part in sports and social activities.
The event was hosted by its statistical secretary, Chongti Khiam, while an invocation prayer was said by its fellow secretary, Yuwang Konyak, and speech was delivered by its president Wangyat Wangsu.
The union sports secretary, Samuel Kano, instructed the players about the tournament after which the president of Naga Students’ Union Guwahati, Ghukha Chophy, declared the tournament opened. Akhang Imlong delivered the vote of thanks and concluded with a benediction said by its information secretary, Apong Konyak
