Dimapur, September 15: Stating that Naga society has been plagued by corruption, which according to him is the biggest disease in the society, State Governor, PB Acharya, called upon the NGO leaders and all stakeholders to raise their voice against the menace of corruption.
The Governor said this in his address during visit to Lozaphuhu, Phek and Chizami villages under Phek district on September 13. Addressing the citizens of these villages, Acharya said Naga society has been plagued by corruption which he termed as the biggest disease in our society. He urged upon the leaders of NGOs and all the stakeholders to raise their voices against the menace of corruption in the society.
The Governor also asked the villagers to build cordial relationship among themselves and also with neighbouring villages in order to become a vibrant society. Besides, he emphasised the importance and scope of mithun rearing especially in these villages and asked them to promote the rearing of mithun on large scale. At the same time, the Governor also stressed on the importance of wildlife and forest preservation, which he said was a necessity at the present context.
He also advised the villagers not to discriminate women based on their gender on any issues as they are no lesser than men in all fronts. He also expressed his appreciation over the State cabinet’s decision on reservation issue which he said was a bold step taken by the State government.
During his visit, the Governor received various representations from villages of which the Tizu river hydro project was one of them. In this connection, he said water is very important for generation of electricity and remarked that, “when there is light there is industry and when there is industry there is employment.” He also called upon the villagers to tap the abundant natural resources bestowed upon them for the welfare of its people instead of jeopardising it.
Minister of School Education, Yitachu, and MLA, Kuzholuzo Nienu, accompanied him besides a number of dignitaries and district officials.
