
DIMAPUR — A total of 17 visually impaired students from four government schools in Dimapur were given assistive devices called ‘Daisy Player’ during a programme held in the office of the Commissioner of Police on Tuesday.
A DIPR report stated that ‘Daisy Player’ is a fully talking pocket library for such students. It is Wi-fi enabled consisting of an E-book reader, MP3 player, voice recorder, access to radio and podcasts and online libraries like Bookshare and Sugamya Pustakalaya.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]It added that the device could read English and Hindi as well as other 11 Indian languages. It plays an essential component in classroom learning where the students could record their classes and independently convert them into Braille.
The concept was initiated by Dimapur Police by bringing together officers and NGOs from different fields, who have contributed towards procuring assistive devices for visually impaired children.
The report stated that Lt. Col. Vivek Kler from Assam Rifles; Inner Wheel Club, Dimapur; Phek Superintendent of Police, Bharat Laxman Markad; Commissioner of Police, Dimapur; and other NGOs have contributed towards the cause.
