Imphal, July 28 (EMN): Many villagers from seven remote villages under Henglep sub-division in Churachandpur district Manipur, bordering Mizoram, were reported sick due to viral infections, according to sources on Friday. So far 41 people including 25 children all below 12 year from Najang village were evacuated to Churachandpur district headquarters which is about 65km away from the state capital on Thursday.
The patients has started medication at the district hospital while authority are on their way to transport more than 80 sick persons from six surrounding villages S Khonam, Vongmol, Thinghijang, Khanpi, Ainujang and Henglep.
The two Saktiman trucks which were engaged for transporting the sick villagers couldn’t move forward from Henglep sub-divisional headquarters due to the rain, sources from Churachandpur said.
Hopefully they will be able to move tomorrow once the rain subsides.
The local authorities along with the Health Department on receiving reports about mass illness striking Najang for the second time in a month have decided to evacuate the villagers, according to Chief Medical Officer Dr Kim Simte of the district.
Doctors attending the patients at the district headquarters said they would not speculate on what may be the cause of the diseases until they have a laboratory confirmation. The blood samples of the patients who are undergoing treatment have been sent for testing.
The ailing villagers, mostly children, had to switch their vehicle at four locations and endured an 8-km walk to cover just about 80 kms that separate their village from the district headquarters, according to the MLA. ‘Some of the patients are said to be in severe condition’, report stated.
