Dimapur, Feb. 10 : Two critically ill patients–an 80 years old man and 70 years old woman–waiting to return home after treatment in Dimapur were refused helicopter service to transport them to their hometown, Mon.
As per the man’s son, Paiwang Konyak, his father had suffered a stroke and was left paralysed for which he had been undergoing treatment for a month and half in Dimapur. Likewise, the woman, who is also from Mon town, has been undergoing treatment in Dimapur for cancer for the past three months. With their deteriorating condition, their respective family had decided to take them home. However with the current unrest in Nagaland as the reason, they were denied helicopter services and that the services are on standby in case of ‘VIP emergency,’ Konyak lamented. ‘The concerned authority has neither given us a positive or negative response to our query,’ he said.
When the service was contacted, it was reported that ‘because of the current situation, the chopper services in Dimapur was on standby in case of VIP emergency.’ Further, the services in Dimapur district ‘is in abeyance because of the bandh.’
Considering the patients’ condition, they are unable to travel by road and transport by helicopter was their only option.
