DIMAPUR — Warning that violence against peace mediators will not be tolerated, the Angami Students' Union (ASU) has come down heavily on the alleged assault of Chakhroma Public Organisation (CPO) leaders and officials at Moava village on February 13.
In a statement, the ASU said it that was compelled to react following what it described as hostile and violent behaviour by people of Moava village against CPO leaders and officials who had gone to the area to maintain order and mediate a dispute.
The union alleged that the mediators were subjected to physical assault, resulting in injuries.
Stating that such premeditated aggression against individuals working for peace was deeply disturbing, the ASU asserted that the Naga homeland “must remain a zone of peace” and warned that it would not tolerate any community resorting to violence, whether against another tribe or its own people, to settle disputes.

While reaffirming its faith in dialogue and traditional mechanisms, the ASU stated that the incident marked a serious line being crossed and cautioned that any further escalation would be viewed as a direct threat to regional stability and a challenge to established authorities.
The union also expressed its support for the ultimatum already served by the Chakhroma Youth Organisation (CYO) and urged all parties concerned to respect the stipulated timeframe and work toward a resolution that restores social harmony and dignity.
Underscoring the need for accountability, the ASU stated that it expects the law of the land to prevail so that such incidents were not repeated.
It further asserted that attempts to “rewrite history” or distort facts would not be tolerated, reminding those residing in the Angami homeland to respect established identities and traditions.
Calling the preservation of peace and harmony a collective responsibility, the union urged sincere efforts to immediately rectify what it termed an unwarranted provocation.
