'Village Rockstars', India's official entry to the Oscars, is scheduled to be released in five major cities across the country this Friday, the movie's distributor said on Thursday.
Directed and produced by Rima Das, 'Village Rockstars' has been released in Assam last Friday.
Cinegoers of Kolkata, Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Bengaluru would be able to watch the film from this Friday, Pawan More of Kamakhya Films said.
Assam government has announced that it would provide Rs one crore to Das for the promotion of the film at the Oscars in the foreign film category.
The film has won four national awards, including the Swarna Kamal for the best film this year.
The film has travelled to 80 film festivals and won 44 awards so far.
'Village Rockstars' tells the story of a poor village girl who aspires to own a guitar and forms a rockband with her friends while her widowed mother struggles to fulfil her wish.
