Dimapur, June 2 (EMN): The Mbaupunggwa village council (MVC) in Peren district has strongly opposed the move to change the location of cardamom cultivation project amounting INR four crores from the village under the directive of the local MLA.
In a letter to the director of horticulture, the council chairman, Ramkia, and the head GB, Hangbu, mentioned that the said project under state priority list (2017-18) for cardamom cultivation at Mbaupunggwa village was retained and approved in principle by the NEC.
It stated that the move to shift the project to Nchangram, Tening and Tepun as desired by advisor of Irrigation and Flood Control, Namri Nchang was based purely on political lines and not on climatic feasibility or viability. It argued that those three villages being ‘more suitable for Cardamon cultivation’ than Mbaupunggwa village was fabricated and totally wrong on ground reality. The council alleged that intention of advisor was politically motivated and done to favour his supporters and voters in these villages.
Asserting that the said project was approved by the state government and retained by NEC during 2017- 18, the council has requested the director not to entertain such directions initiated with the ‘sole purpose of disturbing the peaceful co-existence of villagers on flimsy grounds.’
