Our Correspondent Mokokchung, February 17 Settsü Baptist Church in Mokokchung on Monday celebrated 100 years of Christianity in the church’s premises. Rev. Dr. Mar Atsongchanger, Executive Secretary of the Ao Baptist Arogo Mungdang (Ao Baptist Church Council) was the chief speaker during the evening of February 16. Thousands of believers from Settsü and across the state gathered to witness the centenary celebrations on Monday evening. Settsü village is around 15 kilometer away from Mokokchung town and one of the oldest and smallest villages among the Ao Naga villages. In memory of the first converts from the village, Sennükshiba and his wife Merangsola, and Apangmenla, among the villagers, a memorial in the form of a watch tower was dedicated by Rev. Dr. Mar Atsongchanger.Addressing the occasion, the chief speaker said that the celebrations ought to be a jubilee to reflect on the ‘good and bad’ that the church had faced, the good achieved in the past, and to embark on future plans to spread the message of God. Rev. Dr. Mar Atsongchanger asked the believers not to ‘waste’ the centenary simply by considering it a celebration but receive God ‘both physically and spiritually.’ Only then, he said, the celebrations marking 100 of Christianity would be truly witnessed by the church.
